Samuel was so afraid. Lol.

He thought Kenwin would have gotten 1st in class, because SA2 he lost to Kenwin in some components. Then he keep getting scared when Kenwin's name wasn't read out, until 3rd position. Lol.

Then Samuel relieved.

He so scared actually was because of the $500 Scholarship award that only Top Three get o_O

Before that I was telling him, "Aiya, even not 1st, you confirm top 3, Lol."

today we had 2 papers.

first was lit.

kind of hard. but was kinda okay too. poetry was difficult, prose was definitely the easiest, macbeth was so-so.

then we had english paper 2 - compre + summary.

lots of mistakes by the setter -_-

something called a "mynapara" was mispelled as "mnyapara" throughout the passage, although the correct spelling occasionally appears. that was one of them =x

but anyway, overall, paper 2 was quite easy.

today had math.

the paper was a little difficult. the first few questions in paper 1 were damn easy because they were like expansion and factorisation of algebraic expressions.

and then section B for paper 2 was easy -_- but i made a mistake =x

should have cancelled out an x value. what i did was

x cubed = 361x
x squared = 361

THIS IS WRONG.

so the following is the correct way.

x cubed - 361x = 0
x(x squared - 361) = 0
x = 0 or x squared - 361

though the answers ended up to be the same, the method is wrong.

well anyway, went with yunhan, weijian and yongjie to KFC for lunch. then yongjie went home after KFC-ing. yunhan and weijian and i went to popular to see guidebooks, for no reason. then went to CD-Rama. yunhan and weijian were looking for CDs, but not buying them YET. i was just stoning around then i found 2 of Keane's albums. but was like 14 to 20 dollars each. $_$

and i have decided the following combination, more or less.

8 subject combo:

3) E-Math
4) A-Math
5) Physics

7) Social Studies + History Elective

Wednesday: Sec 3 examinations, so we off as well.

not bad. but the questions that came out in SEQ was unexpected. way unexpected, in a good way.

those questions were so similar to those Mr Thiru gave as us practice papers! and those practice papers were actually past year questions -_-

but history paper was no good for my ink. er. from full ink to almost no ink. spam. but i probably spammed too much until i went irrelevant somehow.

first day of exams. we had english essay paper and chinese essay paper.

english was okay but chinese was a little tough.

english there were 5 questions, but i forgot what was the fourth:
1) Write about a life threatening incident.
2) Write a story that BEGINS with: "I'm not responsible for this. I tell you it wasn't my fault..."
3) Write a story that INCLUDES: "a gentleman, a sportsman and a professional"
5) Fate

i wrote Q2. and wrote about:
1) "I'm not responsbile for this. I tell you it wasn't my fault," I denied.
2) "Okay, I'll believe you just this once," warned Richard, the gang leader of the USSR, not the Soviet Union, but the United Students' Society of the Region.

for that, i didn't really thought of it ..... a random abbreviation just came to my mind, with some kind of link to the United Nations. so UN + USSR + students + gang = random name.

3) introduces USSR as a secret society, not a "gang" as a "gang" is a low-class version of "Secret Society". USSR is the only SS that plans gang fights, hence being the champion of the underworld. i was the secretary of the secret society.
4) introduces USSR as students of Victoria School, but no one knows about it because VS is highly unlikely to have gangs. (this doesn't mean in reality that VS has gangs -_-)
5) Richard started to try drug-dealing. he sent two men to traffic drugs.
6) i left clues for the police to round the two men up. but i was the only one who knew the incident, except for Richard and the two men. hence, Richard suspects me. and that reinforces the first statement of the essay.
7) not happy with Richard. he formed the society, telling us that his belief was "to challenge the Singapore eastern underworld (VS was in the East Zone)".
8) Richard claims that drug-dealing was "a source of income to the society funds".
9) i say is nonsense because... gangs always pay sufficient tribute to us or we whack them.
10) approached Richard to ask for reason
11) he says "other gangs do it. we should follow. we're the top anyway, so why not?"
12) i say "so be it." and quits the secret society.
13) a few weeks later, USSR collapsed because i gave clues to the police. well, i was the ex-secretary, so i'll knew some secrets, don't i ^_^
14) essay ends with my saying sarcastically, "I'm not responsible for this. I tell you it wasn't my fault." and smiles.

as for chinese essay, i wrote a news article review. kinda crap =x it's talking about anime publishing companies requesting Singtel, Starhub and Pacific users to give details of people downloading their anime illegally. then state your views.

today history lesson was highly productive too :) we revised Source-based Questions (Inf and Reliability of Sources) and Structured-based Questions. i just printed the notes of SBQs and SEQs from the school's history blog site. hopefully it'll help me. i'll go practise those in my workbook soon.

good thing Mr Thiru went throuh SEQs and SBQs, or i'll be dead meat in the exams. it's a long time since we did SEQs and SBQs THOROUGHLY. err... well, Mr Daryl Tan the trainee teacher did went through it in Term 3, but the structure seemed quite confusing.

you can write 4-5 long paragraphs just to get 5 marks for SEQ -.- it's like one LONG paragraph for one mark.

while for inference SBQ, u can get 2 marks for inference and one support that is written in only 2 lines of the foolscap paper. basically, roughly 2 sentences.

sad! today i was down with common cold. couldn't make any sense whatever happened today. kept thinking Heartland Mall was Compass Point. and forgot how to get to Heartland Mall -_-

i also made one interesting discovery. one tissue paper, stuffed into the nose will last you 25 minutes (i tried it 3 times. all 3 were roughly around 25 minutes each). next time catching a cold, can roughly gauge how long a tissue paper would last.

another tip: do not talk while having tissue paper in your nose. talking causes vibrations of the tissue paper, causing irritation. hence, avoid talking, no matter how loud.

lit project complete. tried to submit it today but ms koh's laptop couldn't read my video. i expected it. because it was of a sort of some dunno-what codec. so i experiment for an hour or so when i reached home. i realized that when i exported it as .wmv it didn't really affect the quality much. size = 17 MB.

my lit video was split into 4 parts. part 1 is just a Basic title "In support and in response to". part 2 is the live earth logo with SOS morse code. part 3 is the main content video of my lit, size = 520 MB. then part 4 is the live earth logo with SOS morse code again, with madonna's voice singing "this could be good.... Hey You!" like those at the end of the Live Earth Public Service Announcements.

so u see, 520MB ++++ in AVI switch to WMV become 17 MB. i dun really like WMV, because of its quality. i love AVI because of the imba high quality.

i'll upload it ASAP. not now, because i need to continue work on my DnT notes to attach with my sketches. probably by this Sunday/Saturday.

yes. what u see below are newspapers entitled "The Climate Times". it's not real. it's fake. but its content is definitely true. i've designed this newspaper, but its content was extracted from another website, stated in the article itself. this is 2 pages long.

although i'm supposed to do my lit project, but oh well, i'm just too motivated to do this kind of Live Earth things. Live Earth has truly inspired and motivated me especially after hearing/watching "Hey You!", a song written by Madonna for Live Earth and a video was produced for it too. I love its meaning and the video moving according to its beat.

i'm also glad to announce that final year exams are in 2 WEEKS time! that's right! 14 DAYS! and counting... DOWN.

but there's still projects to be completed, so far i've finished history, chinese project. now left with a D n T clock holder and literature multimedia poem to finish. that's not all! what about my robodesign?

RoboDesign???? What's that?

Well, it's a competition I joined, along with my other seniors and peers and ONE junior... namely kayfong, nic cheng, ze wei, yirong, timothy, anthoni, ahmad, endy, dzafir and me... i hope i didn't miss out anyone!

actually, it isn't a competition, it's more of A PART of a competition. there were other sections of the competition as well, like RoboAnime, RoboCode. But I'm more focused in RoboDesign, as assigned by my team. progress so far.. not much. And the deadline's 22 october, one week after my exams end.

well, i hope i will be able to finish it up and hope we do a good job ;) Victorians, the ever last-minute chiongsters.

next, okay, i'm gonna update my Flickr photosets soon enough. yea, i'm gonna put in Teachers' Day celebrations photos and the trip back to pri school. this year wasn't that exciting when i got back. i think only less than half the class turned up, unlike last year, which was almost the entire class, probably due to the fact that last year had Yang laoshi's birthday.

anyway, the day before teachers' day EVE, there was a launch. the EZ COE ICT (East Zone Centre of Excellence for InfoComm Tech) launch at Ngee Ann Sec and at VS. IT Club had a booth set up in VS (yea, we're situated in our home base xD), about our project ViSIT. So, nic cheng, dzafir and I were to present.

RAdm Lui Tuck Yew was the GoH for the event. We saw him again! (Remember? the last time i saw him was during NEWDC/NEVC PGD, he was the GoH.) Well, he's tall.

then, the one week break passed by so fast, that NOW it's already the 2nd week of Term 4! i'm still considering whether I should take DnT or not. my main considerations were:
1) after-school DnT lessons affecting my CCA work, or limiting my time 'capacity' for CCA.
2) sec 4 it's gonna be a tough time! gathering huge pieces of material for your O level DnT work!

Act 7 Scene 12 - Act 7 Scene 24

I've not blogged for a long time.

So I'll starting blogging now.

12 July to 13 July, we have our 24-hour, once in 4 years Victorian Challenge. Each class were to do the challenge they've set for themselves within the 24 hour time-frame. Our class did a chalk mural on the floor and then we washed it away on the following Monday because it was kind of blocking the way. The chalk won't last long anyway. People claimed I slacked. Fine. If I slacked, you all wouldn't have the design anyway. Then you'll have nothing to draw? And without fail, Thenaesh will always try to be the outstanding guy. And two things he did - Stepped on the murals twice. Okay, enough about him. We managed to finish our challenge at 10pm on 12 July and then we camped overnight. I slept at IT Club room. Slept at 4am, woke up at 7.30am. But anyway, challenges that involved food & beverage were not very impactful, because you're only raising some money through F & B. It's not leaving a big footprint here in VS. But I'm not saying that our class left a big footprint. However, I must say that the upper sec's challenges were more meaningful and more challenging. 13 July, 9am, the challenge ended and we were cleaning up our classrooms and the area we used for VC. Then I stayed back in school with Dzafir, Safi, Ryan and Mr Koh to rehearse for Youth Service Learning Award presentation on 14 July morning, before Speech Day starts. Top prize $2000 for future service-learning projects!

14 July, I had the YSLA presentation and our school's 131st Speech Day with an ex-Victorian as our Guest of Honour, Mr Teo Ser Luck (Parliamentary Secretary, MCYS). YSLA went smoothly and I hoped that I hadn't messed up the presentation. Overall, I felt that we did well and hopefully we won at least a 3rd or 2nd prize.

21 July, NEWDC and NEVC Prize-giving Day. Minister of State of Education, RAdm Lui Tuck Yew was our Guest of Honour. From the outside, we had put up an excellent show but inside, we knew we messed up lots of things that weren't part of the plan. And for me, I was an Auditorium Usher stoning at the door there. I was put to Audi Usher at the last minute, so I wasn't quite sure what and how I was supposed to do. After PDG, we have Operation J&J 2.0 (secret secret secret -.-) and then we cleared up the auditorium and our messy clubroom. Then I slept for a while. At around 4pm plus, Kay Fong, Safi, Ryan, Berwin and me went to play basketball while Buddin, Gordon, Ian and a few others went to play soccer. Went home at 6+, 7.

23 July, went to Changi Airport to receive China guests from Guang Dong Nan Hai Zhi Xin Zhong Xue. We were paired up as buddies. Kay Fong and some of them were jealous of Anthoni because they claimed that his buddy was beautiful? -.-

24 July, LATE FOR SCHOOL. OVERSLEPT. Anyway, then brought my Chinese buddy around. I was damn stone. He was damn stone. So both of us were damn stone. Then after school, we had this D & T planning session for a Picture Frame. All of us started to get along (STARTED!). Went home at 7.

anyway, to blog about my first 2 days of term 3...

firstly i've gotta flame!

Parade Square floor is wet and we've been asked to assemble there. Standing throughout the whole thing. So any object that you hold must be held with ur left hand so that you can use ur right hand for pledge-taking.

why can't they just make it simpler and hold morning assembly in the only suitable location which is the respective classrooms? (hall was taken up for examinations)

but instincts tell me it's the new head prefect Tarang's idea <_< but nvm, i'm not gonna jump to conclusions =\

it's weird.

but anyway, getting to the lame part...

first day of school after morning assembly you have ur fren asking rhetorical question such as "Eh pal, where you going?" with a reply of "er.. i'm going PAL lesson". everyone's having PAL for the first 2 periods of the Monday. but the impt part of this joke is the pal and PAL thing. =\

then next, last 2 periods of the day we had LIT (literature). then i randomed. "Lit is so leet!" and then your friend will be going "Lit is of cos very Lit, because it is Lit itself what... what're you talking about?"

"nononono, Lit is 1337. lawl."

the lameness -.-

another good thing is, the canteen food now tastes much better and has more variety of food. they rented out the stalls for more competition and better quality food. heh heh. previously all the stalls were under one group, so there would be not much financial loss.

and... it club just got its own "base defences". beware! -_-"

in other news... we'll be getting a change of Chinese teacher next week. no idea why suddenly Mr Chew says he is going to another country. seriously no idea -_-"

i think NCC(Air) should be happy about his departure? he was occupying almost half of the room as his own staff room. there's no air-con inside though, and he prefers the NCC(Air) room. sigh =\

the change in teacher also led to another problem. no delaying of our Drama presentation deadline. instead, it has been brought forward by one day! THIS BRINGS US GREAT HORROR AS WE WILL NEED TO PRESENT BY TOMORROW AND THE DAY AFTER!!!!

which means, i have to go chiong the whole drama script after this -.- nvm. if tmr my group presents, we'll impromptu. it MAY BE possible since i did it before in English Drama lol. Just want to say a bigggg thank you to EVERYONE who had a hand in organising. I was not very much involved, but I saw the hard work that so many of you put in, and your utmost dedication to the guild and to making this event a success. I’m really very proud of each one of you who put in so much and gave us a really enjoyable day! It was simply fantabulous.

And to the people who are so enthusiastic about planning for a chalet, jia you! Your enthusiasm really impressed the leaders of the other guilds, and I was just filled with pride to know you’re our members.

I think today was a great time of getting to know new faces and building bonds, and I hope that these bonds will stay on and continue to be built. We are, after all, one big family =)

Here's my reflection of the day.

Thank the good spirits of ECP and the sky for allowing us to have nice sunny weather for the entire day, and to look after and protect our members from major harm.

I thank the people who showed up, and esp. lone and joel; their astronomy lessons were most interesting.. You guys can use this to chio girls lor. XD

My shoulder blades feel like they have been dislocated. But anyway, it was good fun yesterday.

Pros of BBG BBQ June 2007:
- Made me learn how to cycle =X All going lunch cycling except me is like so left out =X
- I lasted for 30 seconds at first. Then progressed. LASTED FOR 15 MINUTES! Woot! Then crashed. -.-
- Fun
- Murderer/Mafia Game is fun.
- Lone and Joel convincing us that the dark clouds not faraway were not going to reach us and rain. The breeze is gonna blow it away from us :D
- Fun using zhonghao's camera. LEETHAX CAMERA. Anti-blur, 6.3 Megapixels ._. I want T_T
- Good food.
- Meet many new people.
- Meet the LORD SASA of Ohana.
- Laughter =X
- Me making it lively? Says Rainy =x
- Had fun while being confused of HOD posing as Rainy, and Rainy posing as Cad. To HOD: "Huh. Last yr BBQ you told me you were HOD. RAWR." To Rainy: "Huh. Last year I pass to you T-shirt money how come I still get T-shirt? ._. Lawl."
- Remembered what Kai(Fraggy) wore last year chalet on BBQ day. Red shirt. XD

- BBQ is cheap according to the quantity ordered.

- Sand in ECP is very fine and soft.

- Poor ECP lightning during night. Hard to BBQ.

- Turbulence while cycling =\ Hard to keep balance.
- crashed into someone's wheel. then someone behind crashed into my wheel. Lol =x

last day of exams - bridge to terabithia

yes! today is the last day of exams!

during science paper, mr koh came to our class and asked, "Are there any questions regarding the paper? Er, don't ask me what is the answer for the questions inside the paper, becos im not supposed to tel you the answer. Okay?"

lol. everyone went (-_-)|||

The paper was relatively difficult.

One question, "Describe the movement of a water particle as a wave travels along it.", I was stupid enough to answer as "When one particle vibrates, the next particle will be affected and hence vibrate. As the wave travels along it, ripples are caused."

Okay. That was a stupid answer. My friend wrote, "The vibration of the water particles are perpendicular to the direction of the wave." Then I was stunned. I was thinking "I think that was more appropriate than my answer."

Anyway, I didn't think further about it because I didn't want to have worries.

So, after the exam, we went to VIVOCITY ! At first we hoped that we could catch 12:30 show. But we missed it. We arrived there at 1.55 plus. Then we walk around. Went to the rooftop of Vivo. There was a pond there! ROOFTOP POND! Er, but no fishes. There were some people standing INSIDE (not AROUND) the pond. Of course, barefooted.

Then we started to throw small little stones into the water, seeing how many times it "bounces". My throws didn't bounce. I didn't how to do it. Lol.

Then we took some pictures.

Then we went to Long John Silver and eat LUNCH. I ordered the Chocolate Cream Pie. It was more of a SLICE of a pie.

Since we missed the 1230 and the 1410 shows, we decided to watch the 1510 show, in which I wasn't able to make because I have to reach home by 5 plus to return the camera to my father, who was going to China in the night.

Anyway, it was quite a fun gathering for me and I guess the others had a fun time watching the movie.

monday - 2nd day of exams

today we had:

1. Mother Tongue / Higher Mother Tongue paper one - Essay and Letter-writing (0800 to 1000)
2. Geography paper (1100 to 1230)

Mother Tongue / Higher Mother tongue paper one:

not bad lah. two sections: Essay and Letter-writing. I did essay first because I look at letter-writing quite complicated. I chose the scenario question regarding me seeing a suspicious character in a bank with an object that looks like a gun, while queueing up to deposit money. i wrote it then read it, then found out that it's not really "impact-ful". no twist ._. except for the fact that the gun that the robber in my essay had was a toy gun ._. and then everyone got so pissed. then i seized his gun in the midst of fighting with him. then realized it's a toy gun. then when he running that time, throw the toy gun at his back. then he fell. then i took off his jacket and tore it into two halves. one half tying his legs, the other tying his hands. then dialled for the police.

lol.

then the letter-writing part. my entire class chose the informal letter-writing becos it was the easiest =x then i also realized that it was the easiest. becos i thought that both questions were informal letter writing. but it was one question was formal letter-writing the other, informal.

geography paper:

this one i think i died in it. it was a good thing i took the entire recess time trying to memorize the entire process of landfill method. it came up in the Structured Essay question and then i told myself, "die die must do this question. i mug for the entire recess for this if i don't do, then waste leh."

i took too much time doing mapwork. rawr. then in the end structure essay questions i only managed to do 2 and one quarter out of 3. this means that i would have lose 15 marks AT LEAST for the entire paper. I'm estimating that i lost at least 25 ++. T_T

well, blame it all on me for not mugging much =x

ward visit 5th may

Wah. although im supposed to be mugging for geography today, i went to IMH as usual.

so far the wards I visited:

Ward 62B
Ward 65B
Ward 65A (today)

so.. let's talk about.. today's ward visit. teresa, grace, michael, shawn, lumbo, rachael and me went. the other grace (xanz) joined her group of RJC volunteers to another ward.

it's WORLD WAR TWO - JAPANESE OCCUPATION here in this ward. everyone is literally desperate for food, i mean, snacks.

it's a really, really, really, really, really, really, really BIG BIG BIG BIG BIG challenge. so for the first part of the whole thing we seriously couldn't get everyone together when we tried to play games. and there was one very very smart patient.

the patients were sitting in a circle. so we let each patient throw in 5 goals then get one chocolate (that was our initial plan). then we come to this smart patient (let's name it Patient Smart). Patient Smart threw in 5 balls into the bucket, got his chocolate prize. so we move on to the next guy. then Patient Smart decides to get another chocolate by moving over to another empty seat just beside the person we went on to.

anyway, when we first came into the ward, there were TOO MANY VOLUNTEERS, and TOO MANY PATIENTS, in a VERY SMALL WARD.

then one group of volunteers who followed us went downstairs with some of the patients to free up space. but, there were still problems. although our usual bbg group was still together, there were also other groups of volunteers from Catholic JC and some others. one corner for basketball shooting. damn lame la. 5 to 6 people to host one basketball shooting, when only 2 to 3 people are doing the work. then the rest stone.

then we have to think our own way to keep those in the circle entertained. then finally robert and his fellow achievers in-charge came and give advice. they said: get their attention and then soon they'll follow becos you're the centre of their attention.

then shawn got idea. we scattered ourselves and took seats on the empty seats in the circle.

then we threw the ball among ourselves. then slowly a few volunteers got interested and joined in. that was like, at the last 1 hour of the ward visit.

really sia, a CHALLENGE, especially 4 volunteers of other groups were like playing mahjong among themselves throughout the whole thing. then we were like, wth lor.

oh yes. today there was this orange shirt girl who i thought was a bbgian came for the ward visit. didn't see her before. then grace told me she, Rachael, was the korean girl that jacqueline mentioned about during my first ward visit. lol. didn't expect it. it was like 4 weeks ago, so i didn't really remember it.

anyway, after the ward visit, i was left alone for dinner as the rest went to watch spiderman 3 T_T ahh.. can't watch. no money and exams are coming T_T no wait, i mean, exams are here -_-

anyway, today morning assembly programme we watched a documentary regarding Global Warming from the Ex-Vice-President of the U.S.A. of 1992 to 2000, Al.Gore. The documentary very interesting and he himself admits that U.S.A. plays a large part in the contribution to global warming and he also states that U.S.A. has taken the lead to overcome the problem. He showed examples of impacts of global warming, which were quite scary, is like one shell of the Antartica being melted away very fast in 35 days.

glaciers reflect most of the light waves away, but the water absorbs 90% of the light waves, thus trapping more heat, which in turn makes the surrounding area of the glacier gain heat and then speeds up the melting of the glaciers.

anyway, happy labour day.

hmm. i forgot to blog yesterday. rawr.

:::: 26th APRIL 2007 ::::

we went to East Coast Primary with Mr Koh Chee Kiang (heh heh, my favourite Physics teacher!), Dzafir and Nicholas Cheng (referred to as Cheng as there are FOUR nicholas in ITClub x_X ) to teach one class of students Science, under the topic of Energy and Energy Conversion.

the HOD Science of East Coast Primary, Mdm or Mrs or Ms Krisnan (my apologies but i have forgotten which one T_T ) arranged the top P6 class to attend the class. wah. top class sia.

i taught them the energy conversion for a light bulb connected to a power point, battery-operated torchlight, kinetic energy to gravitational potential energy. then dzafir taught them pendulum and sound. cheng showed them the e-learning website.

so cool la! the lesson was so fun! they were so responsive. lol. at first when they come in then i talk the few sentences they stone. then i ask, "if u got any questions, feel free to ask me any questions. clear?"

then they nod. then i joke to them using Mr Maran's "nod = no" and "shake = yes" some sort of theory. "eh. in some culture ah, nodding ur head is equal to no and shaking ur head is equal to yes." then they laugh.

so i ask again, "so, are u clear?"

then whole class excitedly say, "yes!"

throughout the entire lesson when we asked a question, then someone answer, then we must ask "WHY?" becos in Science, behind everything has a reason. then one person answered correctly, i gave out the first chocolate from one packet of 3 ferrero rocher (i think that's how u spell it).

then after that 2 more pple answered, then get chocolate oso. then the whole packet gone.

mr koh came in and said," don't worry guys. we still have a lot more!" then he brandished a box of 26 ferrero rocher. the whole class went "WHOA!"

so fun! didn't want to leave their lab lesson.

we went to their canteen for some snacks. their Soya Bean Milk only 40 cents leh! i went "Whoa!" when the auntie tell me 40 cents. then she ask me, "why? is it expensive?". i replied, "no. it's very cheap!"

that cup of soya bean milk was not the average size cup that's around 300ml. it's about the size of those huge sugar cane glasses u see in hawker centres such as Newton Circle.

when we exited we saw a fountain at their carpark that we didn't notice. the fountain there put a chinese idiom "Yin Shui Si Yuan". then we all went -_-|||

fountain and yin shui si yuan. lol. no link suddenly got link. "Yin Shui Si Yuan" means that when you drink water, you must acknowledge the source of the water.

today got geography mock exam. not bad la. but then questions quite straightforward. i think exam will be a lot harder. MUGGER STATUS ONLINE!!!

18th Annual VICOMP 2007

today vicomp. my team were GG-fied =.=

but not bad la.

first was Hardware round. assemble CPU in 20min. yea. we got the full 15 points for this.

next round. we have 2 hours to solve 3 scenario based programming questions. for each question, you were to create a program to solve it. the first one was to decode ASCII-85 into Base-64, in which we had no idea what it meant. i'll post the question up next time, 'cos i left the question paper, in which we taken back to study, at the clubroom. this is ONE OF the rounds where we messed up big time T_T

for the entire 2 hours, we were stunned and stoned. ze wei and i were trying to figure out the thing works, while kenwin was busily fiddling around and playing around with some programming code which was totally irrelevant to the questions ._.

we found out the third one, how it works. but kenwin didn't know how to program it =\

in the end, Victoria School : Programming Round : 0 points.

wasn't surprising. no school managed to get all the 3 questions solved. and only 3 schools managed to solve 1 or 2 questions.

next, problem solving round. instructions: computer is infected with malware. identify malware, remove it from computer, explain how the malware works. ze wei was saying, "aiya, easy, just go task manager and search for the process." search, search, and search, then cannot find =.= then i just open My Computer > C drive, then found the malware file. it was more of a Visual Basic Script written to shut the computer down within a countdown timer which be disable easily just by entering "shutdown -a" in Run...

so anyway, i opened the Script file. yea. saw some syntax that writes 3 registry keys into the registry editor. i opened regedit in Run... went to location specified in the screen and then... DELETED. then we got 30 points for TOTALLY REMOVING THE MALWARE but no explanation done because we failed to give a correct explanation D:

next one. another GG-fied round. Theory round. pwnt. individual effort. kenwin 4/20. i got 5/20. zewei scored 6/20. taking the average mark, it's 5/20. lol.

then came the final round, where we didn't take part, becos we weren't the finalists, considering that we screwed programming and theory round.

then prize presentation. unexpected results. we emerged top in problem solving among the non-finalists. lol. yay. at least one trophy for VS.

then i went back to school to put the trophy there, and also pick up my bag in which i left it in school.

monday mourning

today our school has finally achieved our target of every single Victorian wearing his school tie on time, after such a long time. and this target was never achieved in 2006, and i was surprised that it could be done in 2007, the year that is certainly not for VS.

it's too bad that principal mr low missed it. lol. mr maran will be telling him about it and hopefully we get some sort of half-day off =X

lol. well, like a narrative, you expected some sort of twist. here's what happened during the first three periods of day, PAL lessons, Mr Maran came in and talked about the Thenaesh thing. not bad. thenaesh just got owned again ._. although calling him a Mango is not nice, but he considered it as a racist remark. then the whole class, including Ms lim, Mr siow and Mr maran, were stunned, then burst out laughing. Mr Maran then asked, "You call that a racist remark!?"

then the whole thing went on and on. it's basically pointless la. but i kinda disagree with the counsellor last friday saying that the rest of the class who did not bully were part of the case because they were by-standers.

whoa. then i was like wtf. then might as well say the entire sec 2 level. Thenaesh is so famous that the bullying oso takes place outside our class, i mean like, other classes also do SOME nasty things about him.

well, my opinion is that Thenaesh should change la. i mean, we're like the environment and he should adapt to it lor.

zzz. anyway, today after school went straight to mr koh for the 1hour teaching session at East Coast Primary this Thursday. kind of excited =D but now we nid to come up with the worksheets and the notes.

then after the thing i went straight for the sec 1s' math remedial session, in which im one of the mentors (heh heh. at first i was supposed to be "on duty" for tuesday, but i requested a change to monday becos Yun Han's one was on monday.

then i get a bit random. was telling soem of the sec 1s "you can feel free.... or feel cheap or feel expensive to ask me about any questions if you require help"

lol. yunhan told me about mr koh's joke during physics lesson. "If you are exposed to too much x-rays, you'll become x-men. If you are exposed to too much gamma rays, you'll become Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles."

lol. lameness prevails.

oh yea and something else, VS Dragon Boat team emerged 4th place in the 3rd Temasek Ragatta. whoa. unfair judgement sia! one boat cut into our lane then emerged 2nd! how come they not disqualified!? they cut into our lane, and we nid to slow down so as not to capsize or collide with them. then in the end we didn't clinch a championship title. aiyo sian. 2007 is seriously not the year for VS, and i cannot over-emphasize it.

speaking of "over-emphasize" i reminds me of mr maran's speech today during assembly.

"I cannot over-emphasize the need for road safety."

And for that, it reminds me of another issue. it has come to my attention that recently there are many cases of teens being swept away by busy currents and went missing, then found dead body. now, in VS, it's something similar, but not death. recently there are Victorians being hit by cars. now someone from my chinese class got knocked down by a vehicle on saturday after concert band practice. poor Jun hao =\ and im appalled to hear from his fellow band member that he cursed at the driver after being knocked down -.-

wow.

a day full of surprises... no i mean, a narrative full of twists. heh heh. today is such a coincidental day to blog about. say one, speaks another.

TALKING ABOUT TWIST !!! lol.

today English lesson for TfU (teaching for understanding) assignment, we were supposed to present our narrative in any way possible. most of us chose roleplaying. i remembered my group performing with impromptu (because we received the script on that morning!!).

my group was actually performing on last thursday. but there were many groups that were not ready, hence the extension of the deadline.

thanks to creative comunication programme we attended last yr, we were able to bring the best out of ourselves and managed to get one of the groups with the highest marks SO FAR. there're still more to go =x

we were asked, "where's the twist in your narrative?"

then samuel answered, "there's not really a twist in the story because it's like a fictional continuation of the game Ancient Empires 2. you can count the Saeth being spared by Valadorn and Galamar some sort of twist."

anyway.... after our presentation i realized there was a twist!

the twist was... You expected a twist in our narrative, but there's actually no twist!

ah hah =D

ward visit 21st apr

yay. today went imh again. grace the xanzinator, shawn, nel, clar, jie hui and me turned up. today we went to Ward 64 of male senior citizens. not bad. but they're not as hyperactive as Ward 62, the one that i visited two weeks ago. however, they're easier to communicate with them.

we tried ways and means to get them moving and we're proud to say that we're almost there.

some of us played mahjong with a few patients and the rest went to play some ball-and-hoop games.

first of all, when we came in, we asked everyone to do some hand movements. Then we play "musical ball" (pass the ball around. music stops. you're to do some forfeit). ok. this is not really successful as the uncles didn't move from their chairs at all =\

next we invited 3 patients to play mahjong and 1 volunteer to join in. the rest? we went on with the games. such as, throw the hoop at the target (in this case, the volunteers are the target), kick the ball through the hoop, throw the ball though the hoop.

and then that's all. from 3pm to 5pm. yes. the agenda is pretty short. but to get everyone into the game was difficult. and i finally understood why robert (one of the achievers' in-charge) said "it's a new challenge for you guys. good luck".

well, it was kind of enjoyable experience. after that we went to KFC and eat. interesting finding. i finally found the KFC crispy tasty chicken that i haven't tasted for 3 to 4 years. but one part of one chicken, i found something ewwww. a slimy layer of fats. yuck. i peeled that part off =x

and the coleslaw. omg. it was disgusting. one bite and quickly finished 1/3 of my cup of coke.

we talked about a lame joke. the worldwide Fuzzy Wuzzy joke. yea. my friend told me before but i forgot the answer! but i knew it was related to the name. so we spent the entire dinner at KFC guessing what kind of things does fuzzy wuzzy like. grace and lumbo kept the answers to themselves. then shawn finally guessed it. Fuzzy Wuzzy likes things with consecutive double letters. such as, Fuzzy Wuzzy likes yellow but not blue. Fuzzy Wuzzy likes dessert but no desert. Fuzzy Wuzzy likes Timmy but not Tim.

it was a fun day. yea. i love it =D

geography make-up lesson. it lasted until 4pm. kind of boring. but anyway, after that i went to itclub room do some banner for vicomp, with ahmad's help. i went home at 5pm and went straight into retrieval of content. but i was too anxious about the given time and couldn't concentrate. in the end, nothing was out.

had math mentoring programme with the sec 1 juniors who were weak in math. there was this indian named Adip (i think that's how u spell it 'cos i only heard the pronouciation) who was really, really in need of mathematical support. he asked questions that were explained again and then when the teacher asked him whether he paid attention, he answered "i just didn't understand."

and then Mr Tan, the teacher-in-charge at that point in time, jokingly said, "Adip, this is the end plus one time that i've explained to you about this. and so, im going to explain it to you AGAIN. hence making it, end plus two times."

haha. so funny.

::wednesday 18-apr::

THE 48TH ANNUAL NATIONAL INTER-SCHOOL CROSS-COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS 2007! Oh... Oh... VS boleh..... VS boleh...

Just when you though VS is going to continue the winning streak of coming 1st places in both C and B divisions, things go the other way round. this year, instead of VS boleh (VS can do it), it turned out to be VS bo-eng (VS can't do it), which reminds me of the conclusion that i made at the time when we lost the East Zone Badminton Championships.

The conclusion? 2007 isn't the year for VS.

And for some unknown reason, the school has made it non-compulsory for the entire school to go to Turf City to support our VSXC (VS Cross-country) team.

The consequences? The aura isn't there. It's so difference from 2006. You can't feel the presence of Victoria School this year in Turf City. Last year, even if you stood at the ground floor, you could hear VS cheers loud and clear, and that was when everyone has their attention on us.

This year, the support from the school although is fierce, it isn't fierce enough. And that alone can demoralize our VSXC runners as they may feel that their school isn't there to support them as an entire school cohort. We didn't perform well this year. We emerged 3rd in B division and 4th in C division.

And I didn't like the attitude of the Sec 1s. they weren't cheering. In fact, a lot of them showed disinterest and reluctance in coming down to support the VSXC team. and i was feeling so awkward when we were doing the "I have the VS Spirit" cheer. the sec 1s were like so not interested, where is their VS spirit? hasn't the sec 1 orientation camp bonded them towards VS?

and that isn't the end of the bad things for one day.

at the end of entire event, after singing the VS anthem, everyone was like pushing inwards of the circle (we were surrounding the school flags that we brought along to turf city). and the people at the inside of the circle pushed backwards. causing the rest to fall backwards. some got trampled and injured. and the head prefect got so furious and angry and shouted "eh! why do you all to do this! can u all behave or not! some people are already injured!" and then turned his back at us and attended to one boy who fell down.

it's damn stupid la. pushing inwards for what? the traditional spelling cheer which is always done after the VS anthem during special events didn't require people to push each other inwards. in fact, there wasn't any pushing, just that their heads were pointing inwards.

as i was saying, bad things don't just end there. litter was everywhere on our space that we occupied. so embarrassing!

sigh. like i said, 2007 is certainly not the year for vs.

::thursday 19-apr::
it's getting tensed. vicomp website to be submitted in one day's time. safi guided us on the structure of our content. we had to list our points and elaboration, providing examples and elaboration of the examples and then give our review, including positive and negative impacts (we were doing Web 2.0 and Its Impacts on the 21st Century). it reminded me of geography, where we had to list positive and negative effects of a situation if we were to asked "What are the effects of .........?"

and that lets me stun for a moment a reflected, "should i follow my good friend and take the possible chance of being in the same class as him and take History next year, a subject that i dun really like? or should i take Geography next year, a subject that i am kind of interested in, but then i didn't do well for the human geography segment."

anyway, i didn't reflect further and went on sieving out points and information relevant to our topic.

::friday 20-apr::
in math class today, my math teacher ms lim (my form teacher too) invited our school counsellor to step into the class today. and guess what? they were talking to us about the Thenaesh issue that occurred for the past.... almost 1 and a half year. the condition? worsened? improved?

the answer: WORSENED.... alot.

yes. for some reason, i don't know why. some no-life decides to step on Thenaesh bag, place his pencil box and Tamil workbook all over the classroom, taking it as Scavenger Hunt. although i dun really like Thenaesh, i'm too tired to even ask him to shut up (on a few occassions yes, i did, but i was really irritated).

now the school counsellor says that every single person in the class is at fault. because the by-standers just stand aside and watch and didn't stop Thenaesh or the people bullying him.

at that point in time, i felt like saying "then might as well the whole Sec 2 level be involved as by-standers. everyone in sec 2 knows who is Thenaesh of 2A (my class) and what this guy is like. a brief description of Thenaesh would be "A rich Indian boy who is very naive, extremely attention seeking and boastful". im not being racist here but even people of his own race says it. from what i heard from my friend, Thenaesh once said "Can you be my friend? My father is rich." okay, i cannot verify whether it's true but it really gives me a very bad impression of him.

seriously, im not trying to be racist against Thenaesh. I mean like, his behaviour and attitude is really beyond control.

so anyway, the counsellor listed 8-10 names for those who bullied Thenaesh. i wouldn't name them here because i dun feel that it is really necessary. the counsellor asked them whether they want to stop it or bring it up one level (which is to the principal, and eventually the whole class will be questioned). yea, they said stop it. but the thing is. for the past 1 and a half years, we've been saying that.

and absolutely no improvement was shown. and it won't be surprising to see another tragic event upon 2A.

well, the fate lies on the class. and seriously, i want to have a class transfer if i need to. i can't stand this nonsensical 2A anymore. i want to go to 2B =\

so after school, straight away rush to canteen, had noodles for lunch and rushed back upstairs to the CCA room and had a short discussion of what we did so far. then rush down again to the IT lab and chiong the whole vicomp thing.

re-registration done due to errors on VJC's side. but anyway, that was fixed. submission of website was also done. it's kind of nice and interactive. you can view it here:

Ward Visit on 7th April

yesterday i went to IMH along with shawn, yunjie, jie hui, ash, grace, another grace and her boyfriend.

we arrived early and waited... and waited... 1 hour past the official starting time then the people from the Achievers came and brought us to the Ward.

we visited the elderly female who were suffering from mental disorder.

we played games like:

-Passing the ball around, when the music stops, the person who holds the ball will either have to sing/dance.
- Guess what the actor is doing
- some random games
- throw the ball into the bucket!

for 2 hours, we played. it was kind of fun, seeing that the patients were enjoying themselves as well. anyway, when we left, they waved goodbye to us.

we "re-grouped" at an empty space and then discussed abt the 2 June Zoo outing with the patients. Grace was going to recce the place today.

one of the achievers people-in-charge oso told us to design the new Achievers T-shirt front/back if we were interested to. so... :

we went for dinner after that at Compass Point. i had no money left and had to borrow money from ash =x whoa the roti prata i order, the person cooking it damn slow leh! when i was starting to eat, everyone had 98% of their meals finished. then i eat finish, then everyone was chatting. then ash say, "eh, everyone, magna finish eating liao."

"oh, u all waiting for me ah? xD" i ask

"ya, how long did u took to realize that?"

"10 minutes" =X

so we went to the library there, checking out for some books. and then Grace took some book from the Children's section and then joked, "Hmm.. Do you think this is a good book? Do you think it will improve my vocabulary and grammar? Do you think it will improve my language use? I think so you know." lol

going to the library reminded me of the library trip i made before going to IMH. i spent 30min there and then realized i forgot to bring my library card. when i got home, my sis told me i could use my ez-link card. rawr!

anyway, i think that this would be a meaningful event in building even more positive attitude towards mentally ill patients and to say that they're not without happiness though their condition. it is also an event to get closer to fellow BBGians as well.

i've come to the conclusion that when april fool's day falls on a sunday, there are less people to tease you. for the entire day, i didn't encounter any april fool joke. until a few minutes ago, gracia tried to fool me by saying "i want to marry you". and then i replied, "congrats. that was a successful april fool joke... THAT CREATED NO EFFECT xD"

anyway, i was traumatised by the fact that kayfong told me that itclub was going to close down if we did not perform well for our mid-year exams becos we didn't do well for our CA 1. and then, the principal caught my dear CCA-mate who was playing games during recess, which again, screwed the entire club >_>

talking about today... Mozilla Firefox pwns Internet Explorer. my blog layout looks different from my actual blog layout on IE. but on firefox, my blog looks exactly the same i want it to be. therefore, i conclude that, whatever settings u set in Macromedia Dreamweaver is not wrong becos it is perfectly fine when viewed on Firefox whereas it is wrong on IE. and hence, Microsoft Internet Explorer is not a convenient/reliable browser. sheesh.

well, i read shawn's Doom Chapter 14 to Chapter 30 today. Gonna write my "Episode 3: Alien VS Predator, Chapter 3: Dispatched" now. I just got some inspiration from Warcraft III Frozen Throne

i'm glad that BBG is now holding a weekly real-life outing at IMH. i wish one day i'll pick out some free time and join them in visiting the patients there. Go, go, The Achievers @ IMH!

in other news, things in the club are all almost back on track, except for jonathan who keeps playing and fooling around, installing games into the computers. zzz.

anyway, i'm participating in another competition. ViCOMP 2007 by victoria junior college. i feel so excited. it's going to be a tough and challenging day at vjc on the 25 april. but, i fear that i do not have the capabilities for it, like, programming knowledge, IT knowledge, and stuff. other than these, i have to rush in completing a website for the Web Production section of this competition by 20 april 5pm.

physics today was boring. physics today was kind of slack. the first period we were going through the Reflection and Refraction of Light worksheet, and then second period we were at the physics lab. those who couldn't complete the experiment on Tuesday were given time today to finish it. i already done it on Tues hence i had nothing to do, which made me go around the tables, cleaning the mirrors that had all the fingerprints on it.

anyway, i was kind of bored.

oh yes. i made a minor modification to the skin. some of you may not realize. but i think i found out the solution to my text size that differs from PC to PC. i previously had set my text size as "points" and they appeared even smaller in some computers. currently i have set my text size as "pixels" and they should appear roughly the same in every PC.

i'll only find out if it is true the next time i go to the it lab.

anyway, itclub has been in a very bad shape in the first week of term 2. tomorrow's a monday, a new week, i hope things are much better. i'm gonna so uninstall all the games in the clubroom, regardless of me having the permission to do so. the sec 1s are playing when the seniors have reminded them not to. and the reason why they're doing so is becos some of us the seniors are playing.

sigh. there're always black sheep everywhere. anyway, dzafir and i are kind of stressed up about the club during term 2 week 1. the sec 4s are saying that the current itclub exco 2007 are falling apart.

i hope that we will all be a part and not apart starting from tomorrow.

further more, the fortnightly games day totally sucks. games day is supposed to be fun, enjoyable, non-regimental. but i think dzafir has made it such that it is no longer games day, but abcd - army boot camp day. if you get to the ground floor longer than 30 seconds, you do the amount of pushups equal to the number of seconds you exceed.

i don't think it's really dzafir's fault. he's probably under the influence and stress of the sec 3s who started it.

if itclub is gonna suck even more, i'll be forced by myself to quit it.

whoa, another tiring event

Today's the Briefing Day of the 8th National Education Web Design Competition (NEWDC) and the 1st National Education Video Competition (NEVC). Let me give a brief introduction in case some of you are curious since this is the first time I'm mentioning this.

NEWDC and NEVC are two competitions that are hosted by Victoria School ITClub (Yep, that's my school, and my CCA) for Primary 4 to 6 students. This year's theme is "I love Singapore". This is the first year for the NEVC and I see that the Sec 3s, who are the committee of these two competitions, are performing better than last year's NEWDC Committee (there wasn't a NEVC committee last year because it wasn't started then).

The Briefing Day was held at Singapore Discovery Centre. Very big. I was stationed at the registration table and in-charged of taking attendance for NEWDC participants who were coming for this briefing. We arrived late at the venue by 15minutes because of my senior forgetting to take his keys when he was halfway through the journey to school. Sigh.

We reached there and was about to set-up the things and stuff. That was at about 8.40a.m. But, I already saw 2 teams coming down the walkway, towards us. Omg! So early!? Registration only starts at around 9a.m. So yeah, the 3 people who were stationed at the registration table, including me, have to set it up quickly and mark attendance.

I needed to go at 10a.m. So the time I stayed to carry out my duty on this Briefing Day was little. However, I learnt quite a lot of things and if I'm in the NEWDC/NEVC Committee next year, I'll definitely try to solve these problems.

I had teachers asking me where to go while I was trying to find the name of a school of one teacher who was registering. Then after that, another teacher came to me and asked me another question. Seeing that I had to solve 3 at one go, and I didn't think I had enough time to even ask my other 2 friends beside me, I have to make 2 teachers wait while I settle one by one.

So, I suggest that next year there better be an information counter to cater to the people who have doubts or are lost.

Then, schools whose teams participate in both competitions, were complaining that it was ridiculous to join back the long queue of the other competition after marking attendance of the first one. Because, well, the queues were really long.

So, I suggest maybe next year we split it into four lanes, rather than two. Probably, A-M and N-Z for each competition.

Setting up more stations would mean the need for more manpower, which we are lacking of. 30+ students or less handling like 400+ is kind of a challenge.

So I conclude that even though I stayed the Singapore Discovery Centre for 1.5hours, I learnt quite a lot of things and hope to implement these ideas next year.

Oh yes, the briefing day was supposed to end at 12, and we were to be dismissed at 2 from school after a de-briefing.

But I left at 10 because I had to leave early to attend my Granny's birthday at 12noon. Considering that Boon Lay, in the west, and Hougang, in the northeast, are quite far apart, and I needed transfers, 2 hours was more or less enough to reach my destination. Yeah, I calculated, 1 hour 50 minutes ._.

And today, getting interviewed by a few MOE officials, regarding the School of the Future, one of them asked, "What will you do if each of you were given a laptop?"

My friend answered, "Check if what the teacher says is correct."

And we all went laughing out loud, literally :D

All went pretty well today. I was happy to the fact that my bio teacher Tan Yin Leng didn't come to school today :D Woot, no bio :D

Still, I can't solve this equation:

A rectangle of sides x cm and y cm has an area of 72cm2. Another rectangle, of sides (x+1.5) cm and (y-1.5) cm, has the same area. Using substituion and elimination methods of solving simatinaeous equations, find the values of x and y.

I'm poor in Math. Lol. Algebra ftw :D
